An introduction
Hi.
My name is Steve Froud. I’m 62 years young and I’m a paracordaholic.
Some people ask, what is paracord?
Paracord, also referred to as parachute cord, is a lightweight cord made of nylon that usually has several strands inside. Paracord was originally used for parachuting during World War II and since has evolved from a military essential to a commercial and personal tool that is used by many. Although paracord is not used for parachuting any longer, its strength and versatility has always proven itself to be a great cord for any project.
Why paracord?
I discovered the world of paracord by accident three years ago when I bought a hank of not very good quality paracord from an outdoors type shop while on holiday in Cornwall. I only bought it because it was in a sale and I thought it might just come in handy one day.
I needed to find a hobby to occupy my time as I had to give up work along with my lifelong love of owning, riding and building motorcycles due to rapidly worsening Arthritis.
Where the name came from
Sitting in front of the TV one evening I grabbed the hank of cord and started playing with it after watching a YouTube tuition video on how to make a basic Cobra weave bracelet. It worked out reasonably well, but I was instantly hooked.
I came up with the name Paracordia UK one night in the shower, and as they say…The rest is history.
Bespoke designs
I am a member of a number of Facebook EDC and “sharp pointy things” groups & several outdoor and bushcraft pages as well. I make knife lanyards for many of the group members and work closely with them during the process of discussing requirements and design. Once a design is agreed upon I aim to make it and get it sent out to the customer within 24 hours where possible.
I also make many other items, such as bracelets, dog leads and collars, key fob danglers, golf tee holders etc. The list is endless.
Highest quality
I work with top quality US made paracord to achieve the high quality results I get. I also use top quality hardware and fittings as it is something that you cannot cut corners with if you want a product to last and always look it’s best.
I have in excess of 200 different colours of 550 Type III paracord at my disposal, along with various other types including 40+ colours of Type 95 micro cord which is used for stitching intricate colour popping designs into pieces.
I also make brass Marlin spikes for knotwork and the occasional brass lanyard bead too. If you would like to see more of my designs why not come & visit my Instagram by pressing the button below.
